Unlike other forms of yoga which require strength and stability, Yin Yoga requires stillness and softness. This practice consists of long-held, passive stresses of the deeper connective tissues, bringing physical, psychological and energetic benefits. Holding poses in stillness may help improve the range of motion and flexibility; increase collagen production; keep the skin younger; prevent or reduce contracture; and prevent fusion (permanent loss of the mobility in the joint). The Yin Yoga practice also stimulates mindfulness, enhancing the flow of energy in our body through awareness and breath.
